Content
The consolidated statutes and regulations and the annual statutes from British Columbia are updated weekly by CanLII, from BC Laws.
Consolidated Statutes
The consolidated statutes database started on January 1, 2009 and contains point-in-time versions of the Revised Statutes of British Columbia, 1996 (RSBC 1996 - other RSBC years may also be available) as well as several chapters of the annual Statutes of British Columbia (SBC). These versions are "in force versions", that is, versions of the text as it was legally binding during a certain period of time.
CanLII cites these statutes as follows:
- by the chapter number of the RSBC 1996, as for example: Municipal Finance Authority Act, RSBC 1996, c 325; or
- by the annual chapter number of the SBC, as for example: Municipalities Enabling and Validating Act (No. 3), SBC 2001, c 44.
Consolidated Regulations
The consolidated regulations database started on January 1, 2009 and contains point-in-time versions of the British Columbia Regulations (BC Reg) enabled by a consolidated statute. These versions are "posted versions", that is, versions of the text as it was posted on the official printer's website and downloaded by CanLII at certain dates.
CanLII cites these regulations by their BC Reg number, as for example: Family Maintenance Enforcement Act Regulation, BC Reg 346/88.
Annual Statutes
The annual statutes database brings together the assented statutes once enacted by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia since March 1997. They include new Acts as well as Acts that amend existing consolidated Acts.
CanLII refers to annual statutes by their Statutes of British Columbia (SBC) chapter number, as for example:
- Arbitration Act, SBC 2020, c 2;
- British Columbia Neurotrauma Fund Contribution Act, SBC 1997, c 3.
